2012 Games

 

PYLONS

The horse and rider must go through the three sets of pylons, make a turn around the center pylon, then return through the two sets of pylons. Race may be run from either a right or left pattern.

PENALTIES

The only penalty is disqualification.

DISQUALIFICATIONS

Breaking the pattern. Failure to complete the event. Knocking over a cone. No legs of the horse may cross over the top of a pylon. Getting off the horse.

 

POLES 

The pole-bending pattern is to run around 6 poles.  The rider starts either on the right or left, runs to the sixth pole, pivots and starts weaving in and out back to number 1 pole. The rider will then pivot around the number 1 pole and weave in and out back down to the number 6 pole. Once the rider pivots around the number 6 pole the rider will run back to the finish line.  Each pole will be placed 21 feet apart with the first pole 21 feet from the starting line.

PENALTY

 Five-second penalty for each pole knocked over.

DISQUALIFICATION

Failure to complete the event, Breaking the pattern, Getting off the horse.

 

DOUBLE BARREL FLAG RACE

Enter the arena at desired speed and race to the barrel at the other end of the arena.  Go around the barrel on either the right or left side.  The rider must retrieve the flag from the bucket and place it in the next bucket to the right or left then race across the timer line.

In Assisted class runner may help child to reach the flag but may not touch the flag.

DISQUALIFICATION

Riders are disqualified and receive a “no time” if there is any deviation from the pattern including, knocking the barrel over, circling the barrel, failure to go around the barrel, reversing direction, or crossing the timer line prior to completing the pattern or striking the horse with the flag. 

 

MAD MOUSE 

Two cones will be placed 10 feet from the timer line. These cones will be 8 feet apart and centered with the alleyway. Two poles and one barrel will be set up 30 feet from and parallel with the timer line. The poles will be set 30 feet left and right of the barrel.

Contestant must enter the arena and pass between the cones, then circle a pole on either the right or left side. Pass the opposite side of the center barrel and circle the last pole. Then the contestant must pass back between the cones and cross the timer line.

PENALTIES

Knocking over a cone, pole or barrel will result in a five second penalty for each.

DISQUALIFICATION

Breaking the pattern will be cause for disqualification.

 

STRAIGHT AWAY BARRELS 

The rider crosses the timer line weaving either right or left of the first barrel.  Then continues to weave in and out to the third barrel the rider then circles the third barrel and weaves in and out back to the first barrel crossing the finish line.

PENALTIES

A five second penalty for knocking over a barrel, If a contestant knocks over a barrel and it stands up on it’s other end (flips) the contestant will still receive a penalty.

DISQUALIFICATION

Breaking the pattern, Failure to complete the race, Getting off the horse.

 

CLOVERLEAF BARRELS 

The cloverleaf barrel race is a timed event. The rider will cross the timer line, go to the first barrel and make a 360-degree turn around the first barrel. Then the rider will cross the arena to the second barrel and make a 360-degree turn around the second barrel. The rider will then race down to the third barrel and make a 360-degree turn around the third barrel racing back across the timer line by passing between the first and second barrel.  This pattern may be run either right or left.

PENALTIES

A FIVE-SECOND PENALTY WILL BE ADDED TO THE RIDER’S TIME FOR KNOCKING OVER A BARREL.  If a contestant knocks over a barrel and it stand up on its other end (flips) the contestant will still receive a penalty.
